What you will do
The Sr. Desktop Engineer provides technical leadership in the design, development and implementation of services that manage the enterprise global client computing environment.  The desktop engineer is a thought leader who implements high-quality technical solutions based on best practices and complex business and technical requirements as standard product offerings for our enterprise clients. 
Individuals in this role interact with diverse technical staff across multiple projects through all technology and development life-cycle phases to ensure compliance with company established architecture direction and standards.  They establish confidence and respect by building trusting relationships with business and regional I/T organizations. The desktop engineer maintains an understanding of key business and corporate initiatives to provide effective consulting services.
How you will do it
  • Acts as a senior level mentor to technical personnel for any/all issues regarding the design and implementation of client computing environments.
  • Defines, prioritizes, schedules and monitors multiple technical projects, developing and maintaining comprehensive project plans/schedules and uses same to provide senior management with accurate and complete status information.
  • Maintains system security through patch management, desired configuration management, group policy and related best practices.
  • Ensures compliance with, and the maintenance of, the Johnson Controls global client computing environment and related standards including; operating systems, hardware and software configurations, anti-virus, remote access, remote control, web browser, and system management tools, PC lifecycle management and backup/recovery.
  • Designs, develops and maintains the Johnson Controls operating system image(s) for both physical and virtual client computing environments globally.
  • Establishes and maintains Johnson Controls virtual desktop solutions using Hyper-V, VMWare View, VMWare Workstation, and a variety of similar technologies
  • Stays current on all regional application and infrastructure projects to maintain global standards and provide global continuity among regional infrastructure personnel.
  • Acts as liaison between Johnson Controls and managed vendors to provide information on future projects, business requirements and technical concerns of initiated projects.
  • Ensures that managed vendors follow all Johnson Controls computing environment architecture standards.
  • Develops strategic plans and identifies key success factors; sets priorities and allocates the resources to achieve unit, division and corporate goals.
  • Sponsors and conducts pilot projects to evaluate computing environment technologies and their applicability in support of Johnson Controls business requirements and strategic goals.
  • Acts as an internal consultant to business unit and Infrastructure I/T staff on any and all projects that may require additional computing resources or changes to current computing infrastructure elements.
  • Adheres to all current Change/Release and Problem management policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

What we look for
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline or equivalent
  • 7 years of experience in strategic planning, design, and development of technical services for a large client computing environment
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the design, deployment, administration and operation of Microsoft SCCM or equivalent client management solution in large enterprise environment
  • Demonstrable experience with MS Service Manager, Orchestrator, SCUP, WSUS, MDT, USMT, MDOP, MBAM/BitLocker, and Active Directory
  • Strong Skills with PowerShell, VBScript, hta script, WMI
  • Experience with Windows 7 security and UAC, least privilege access, DLP and current security principles.
  • Expert knowledge of client computing devices and operating systems with strong focus on modern Microsoft client OSs including Windows Embedded.
  • Experience with design and development of a secure Operating System Deployment service with image build experience using MDT and SCCM or similar technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication/documentation skills
  • Effective communicator of technical material to a non-technical audience at various levels
  • Ability to establish and maintain high levels of client trust and confidence
  • Occasional domestic and international travel up to 10%
  • Knowledgeable or experienced in the following technologies strongly desired
    • Mobile: Windows Phone, iOS, Android, security, Intune, MobileIron and similar mobile device management tools
    • Knowledge of Routers, Switches, Ethernet, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, gateways, Firewalls, Content Switches, Wireless (Cellular/WiFi/Bluetooth), VPN, and LAN Security standards

    • SQL/BI Reporting
    • OS/applications: Microsoft Office, Visio, Project, and similar products
